Hi all! My name is Joey and I've loved Electra since I first sat on the original Rat Fink in my LBS about 10 years ago. Since then, many-a-cruiser has passed through my shop. In fact, I can point to that moment on the Fink that I became addicted to the cruiser culture and now I have a full blown hobby-ness centered on customizing cruisers and promoting the lifestyle.

I currently have a Sparker, Deluxe (silver frame) and cruiser 1 (all of which are either customized or on their way!) and my wife's ride is a Twiggy. Below is my Cruiser 1... can't wait for my next Electra! Thanks for the forum, I'm already drooling

Forum: Welcome to Electra Bike Forums

Which Cruiser for a tall guy?

Hello All,

New to the forum but sure happy I found it. If I was on the fence before, I'm now convinced I'll buy an Electra just due to the fact that there is a forum community to discuss/share/help with other owners

That said, I'm 6'4, 205 with a 35-36" inseam. I currently have an older (different brand) single speed beach cruiser with a larger frame. It's been a great bike, but I want a 3i and ideally a bit lighter bike.

Info to consider:
-I will be running a Carver Max Surfboard rack off the back, so I'm hoping the new bike I choose will mate up with that rack as well.
-I have a Yakima Holdup 2 bike rack that I typically use to transport the bikes. I believe this bike rack will not work with the longer stretched RF or GR model bikes. Also, has anyone mounted a bike with the 24" Fatt-O tire on this rack?

From my research, it looks like I should consider the Super Deluxe, Sparker or Straight 8.
I test rode a Straight 8 yesterday and overall liked it pretty much.
After researching the website last night, I feel a draw to the Sparker 3i. It seems like I'd get the added comfort of the Fatty tire in the rear, but not as much rolling resistance overall since the front is still a 2.125" tire.

Can anyone comment on which bike would be more spacious/comfortable for someone my size? Also, if I went the Sparker or Straight 8 route, how much resistance do the Fatt-O tires cause? Am I going to be working that much more on climbing grades and are they a slower rolling tire overall?

We beach camp a lot, so the bike will primarily be used for 1-8 mile trips into town or surf spots, a lot of flat but windy conditions at times with some grades here and there. All around So-Cal.

Thanks in advance!

Forum: Electra

Hi, my name is Jo and I've been looking at this fab forum for a while...in need of some advice if that's ok and thinking of getting either the Indy or the Straight 8? I'm thinking the Indy looks bit more practical as I'm not getting any younger at 45! ...I used to own a Pink Fink some years back when I was younger and fitter and I adored this bike...not many dealers here in UK but Halfords stock them and getting fairly good deal...any help much appreciated?
Buying direct.. Is it possible?

Hmm, yet again I have had a problem trying to do the simple thing of buying an Electra bike here in the UK. This time its Amazon, or, to be more precise, the 'Retailer' who supplies them. Amazon, as usual, just give a stock quote of they can only go by what their retailer tells them. Not much use when you place an order for something that shows 5 in stock and you're left waiting.
Just who is the retailer that can't keep a simple thing like stock levels updated and why don't they keep it accurate? Is it because that they set the prices low to entice you in then hope that you'll try for something more expensive? I can't really believe that.

Anyway, this got me thinking. Why can't I buy a bike direct from Electra? Do they even have an outlet to the public? If this isn't possible is there any way of buying one direct from the US and having it shipped to the UK? There must be some way of doing this, after all I've got lots of other things sent from the States. Books, DVD's even my Avenir seat.

All I wanted was to give my trusty steel Cruiser an easier life and buy a Townie to use for my journey to and from work.

Perhaps the good folk at Electra could give the 'importers/retailers over here a bit of a prod to wake them up and keep existing and potential Electra users happy.
Forum: Electra

I'm a 61 yr old female that lives on a farm. Rides my Fuji cruiser style aluminum bike. My shoulders/back seem to bother me after riding. Was thinking Townie. We have a blacktop driveway, blue chip stone (hard to ride on), and dirt paths. I was thinking to get the 3i but read reviews and doesn't seem that will help with the hills (which I now avoid since I love going down them BUT have to push my Fuji back up! Lol

Seems to me the Townie 3i may be not much better than my Fuji cruiser, a, I correct?

Now thinking 8i, any input appreciated.

Original 8i or Balloon 8i ??

I DO need coaster brakes since I have never gotten use to the hand ones. And I also want aluminum for the weight.

I'm looking for a chain and integrated kickstand for an Electra Betty 3i. I'm not sure of the length needed for the chain, but I assume it's the slightly longer than usual one that fits most pedal-forward Electra fashion bikes. Same goes for the kickstand. I'm not sure what length is needed, but it should be the same used for the Hawaii, Betty, etc...
It would be ideal to pick these up at the EBF Carlsbad ride.
Forum: Must Have
